TRANSLATED FROM THE BENGALI BY AMANITA SEN
Sometimes on a blazing day of ‘Baishakh’,
a cool shower lends out its unconditional hand.
It touches the scorching fingers of the summer,
the boundless gloom running inside its veins.
Nothing but a homeless fledgling with a dead past, now,
I send to you all the thunderous rains
from deep within my being.
Do you feel the rain’s magical healing powers?
Do you not see how the dew drop on the grass
holds in its heart the quiet colours of the rainbow?
Are you not like the bright nebula
showering the crystal droplets of light
from the mountains of the moon?
Baishakh- the first month of the Bengali calendar year
